From the cosmos to the cell

From the cosmos to the cell
If the cosmos is a collection of stars, humans are a collection of atoms.
Atoms conglomerate to form cells, and cells aggregate to construct our entire body.
Atoms are the fundamental building blocks of all that is visible. Everything around us is constituted of atoms.
The challenge is that atoms are too minuscule to be seen with the naked eye.
Yet, there is much more to the world than what is visible. To comprehend life, we must inevitably examine such microcosms.

Lewis Thomas eloquently articulated that humans are 'shared, borrowed, and occupied' by an incalculable number of organisms within our bodies.
Without these organisms, 'we could not move a muscle, wiggle a finger, or conceive a thought,' he asserted.
The atoms of the universe and its matter are perpetually among us.
These atoms assemble to form our present selves, and upon our demise, the atoms that comprise our bodies will scatter and become part of something else.
In essence, our body is a colossal community, and we harbor far more non-human than human cells within us. Without them, we could not exist at this moment, nor could we think, feel, or speak.

To paraphrase his words, none can exist in solitude. Our world is a living, breathing colossal cell, where each different part is organically connected and coexists with the others.

Low energy is fundamentally at the root of all diseases.
The energy factories of cells suffer in starvation.
These diminutive energy factories are known as mitochondria.
The mitochondria must be active for cells to be active.
And the cells must be active for the body to be active.
